Web Hosting?

I registered a domain name for my company a few years ago, as an example www.greatsolutions.co.uk.

I want to be able to make it into a website now, i want to get a company to host the website (i%26#039;m going to figure out how to design it in something like MS frontpage). Can i just tell them my domain name or do i have to %26#039;deregister%26#039; it from the register company and reregister it with the new company or what?

Finally will i be able to get an email address like emma.hope@greatsolutions.co.uk from a webhost company?

Does any have any recommendations of a company that could do this for me, i want someone i can use (i am UK based) and offers good value for money (not necessarily the cheapest), good customer service etc.

Web Hosting?

Hi, points all below:

1. Your Domain - The most important thing to remember is to never never move your domain to the hosting company, you want to keep your domain at your current register company and only change the DNS servers. The reason is that you want to keep control of that domain name as bad hosting companies in the past have sometimes held it hostage to make you pay and stay with them or if they go bankrupt its hard for you to get your domain back. When you sign up with a hosting company they will give you DNS servers and then you can just go into your current register and change your DNS servers to those and within 10 to 36 hours everything will be working.

2. Your Email - yep that is no problem, the hosting company will have a control panel you can use to make those emails. Its easy and they will probably have a flash movie to show you how.

3. Recommended UK based companies - For someone who focuses on web hosting and is inexpensive but not the cheapest and has good customer service I recommend the below:

UK2.Net - http://uk2.net/ - One of the bigger UK based companies, reviews are not great but that is just because they are one of the bigger ones, still a good cheap host. (User reviews at http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/uk2 and http://www.uk2reviews.com/)

DataFlame - http://www.dataflame.co.uk/ - Decent company, but has good user reviews (Revies at http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/dataf... and http://www.dataflamereviews.com/)

HostNine - Their staff is US based but they have UK based servers, mid size and very good reviews (Reviews at http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/hostn... and http://www.hostninereviews.com). Depends on if you want UK based service.

You might also check out http://2uk2.com/, newer so don%26#039;t know too much about them. Also you can get a lot of info on a host by searching on WebHostingTalk.com for the hosts name too or for uk based hosts and it comes up with a few more.

Good luck!

Thanks, Ben

Web Hosting?

You should be asking this question at the help option of Yahoo! instead of Yahoo questions and answers. I think they will be able to accomplish everything you want done (for a fee so make sure ask about the price).

Other Replys:Your domain name will be your website name...there are redirect services but it will cost you more in the long run. The domain registry is around $5. Once you have established your domain name as %26quot;greatsolutions.co.uk%26quot; you will own everything before @greatsolutions.co.uk for e-mail service.

Do a search for %26quot;website hosting%26quot; in your area for the best deals....make sure you find a site that will allow frontpage extensions...so you can harness the power of MS Frontpage

A lot of hosting companies are providing free webpage builders with their services...you might want to look into that too.

Good Luck

Other Replys:I wrote an article in my blog about finding a domain name and getting web hosting: http://www.web-a-week.com/2007/09/05/fin...

I%26#039;m also UK based and use a couple of web hosts. The one in my blog is a US reseller actually using a UK main host (but they are cheaper than going direct to the host!)

I also use http://www.protecweb.co.uk/. I%26#039;ve dealt with them by email and they are very helpful and quick to respond. There is a phone line - I just haven%26#039;t had to use it. They do Frontpage extensions if you like Frontpage.

(DO not use fasthosts as their customer service is terrible - I moved away from them!)

Once you have got your web hosting sorted out the web hosting company will tell you their web server names - you will be able to set these somewhere in your domain name setup and within 24 hours the 2 will connect.

Other Replys:Yes its easy. i would recommend you this wonderful website http://www.fxdoors.com they offer the certified top 10 web hosting companies. all you have to do is visit this site review, compare and choose your hosting company from top 10 list and the company will help you they will solve all your problem. thanks
